MapSorted is a small one-person travel site. We try to collect as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Anonymous analytics:we use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand which pages get read, how visitors arrive, and where they get stuck. Both tools collect standard information like browser, country, device type, and pages viewed. We don’t link this data to your name or email.
- Newsletter signups:if you sign up for the MapSorted newsletter, we collect your email address (handled by Beehiiv) and the page where you signed up. That’s it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Trip plans you save:when you save a trip in our planner, the data is stored in your browser’s local storage — it never leaves your device. We don’t see your saved trips on our servers.
- Affiliate-click tracking: when you click an affiliate link to Viator, Booking.com, or similar, that platform sets a cookie so they can attribute the booking to MapSorted. See our affiliate disclosure for details.
What we don’t collect
- We don’t require accounts. There’s no login, no profile, no password to lose.
- We don’t sell or rent any data, ever. Period.
- We don’t serve display ads, so no ad-network tracking.
- We don’t use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar social-media tracking.
- We don’t collect payment info — bookings happen on the partner site, not here.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies, mostly for analytics:
- Google Analytics sets cookies to count returning visitors and aggregate traffic patterns.
- Microsoft Clarity sets cookies to record anonymous heatmaps and session replays so we can spot UX problems. Replays don’t capture text you type into forms.
- Affiliate partners (Viator, Booking.com, Stay22) set cookies after you click through to their sites — not on MapSorted.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work without them — most features don’t require any tracking.
Third parties we use
- Vercel — hosts the site. Sees standard server logs.
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous traffic analytics.
- Microsoft Clarity — anonymous heatmaps and session replay.
- Beehiiv — handles newsletter subscriber list and email delivery.
- Mapbox — renders interactive maps on guide pages.
- Viator, Stay22, Booking.com — affiliate booking partners.
Each of these has its own privacy policy. We’ve picked partners we think handle data responsibly, but we can’t control what happens once data reaches them.
Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar)
If you’re in the EU, UK, California, or another region with privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Ask what data we have on you (almost certainly: just your email if you subscribed).
- Ask us to delete that data.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter (one-click, in any email).
- Opt out of any sale of your personal information (we don’t sell, but the right exists).
Email any of these requests via the contact info on the about page. We typically respond within a few days.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material — new tracking partner, new data category — we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date at the top. Significant changes get a note in the next newsletter.
