🛡️ Safety

Philadelphia62/100Safety Score88/100Quebec City

Philadelphia

Philadelphia has significant neighborhood variation. The historic district, Rittenhouse Square, and Fishtown are generally safe tourist zones. North Philadelphia and Kensington have serious crime issues — avoid wandering into unfamiliar neighborhoods at night.

Quebec City

Quebec City is one of the safest cities in North America. Violent crime is extremely rare in tourist areas. The main risks are minor: pickpocketing in crowded Old Town in summer, icy sidewalks in winter, and occasional aggressive panhandling near Lower Town. The city's compact, walkable nature means few transportation-related risks.

The Verdict

Choose Philadelphia if...

you want America's birthplace — Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Reading Terminal's food hall, the iconic cheesesteak, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Rocky steps — the most historically charged US city after DC

Choose Quebec City if...

you want North America's only walled city north of Mexico — Château Frontenac, Plains of Abraham, Carnaval snow sculptures, poutine on Rue Saint-Jean, and cobblestone Vieux-Québec with a French soul
