🛡️ Safety

Jeju Island88/100Safety Score68/100Komodo Islands

Jeju Island

Jeju is one of the safest destinations in Asia for international travelers. Violent crime is rare and petty theft uncommon by regional standards. The main risks are natural — rip currents at popular beaches and changing weather on Hallasan trails.

Komodo Islands

The Komodo Islands are generally safe for travelers, but the remote marine environment and presence of Komodo dragons demand respect. Strong ocean currents at dive sites are the primary risk. Always use licensed guides in the national park — it is mandatory and enforced.

🌤️ Weather

Jeju Island

Jeju has a humid subtropical climate warmer and wetter than mainland Korea. The island receives significant rainfall year-round, especially in summer monsoon season. Hallasan creates a weather divide — the south (Seogwipo) is noticeably milder and sunnier than the north in winter.

Spring (March–May)8–18°C
Summer (June–August)22–30°C
Autumn (September–November)15–24°C
Winter (December–February)3–10°C

Komodo Islands

Komodo has a tropical savanna climate, drier and hotter than most of Indonesia. The dry season (April-November) brings calm seas and clear skies ideal for diving and trekking. The wet season (December-March) has rougher seas and afternoon storms but greener landscapes.

Dry Season (April - November)26-34°C
Shoulder (April & November) (April, November)26-33°C
Wet Season (December - March)25-32°C

🚇 Getting Around

Jeju Island

Jeju has no train network. The practical choice for most visitors is a rental car — the island is not large (roughly 73 km east-west) and driving allows access to the many coastal spots that buses don't reach. Taxis are readily available and affordable by Asian standards.

Walkability: Low island-wide, moderate-to-good within Jeju City center and Seogwipo downtown. Most major attractions require a vehicle to reach — Jeju is not a city you can explore on foot.

Rental Car₩30,000–60,000/day ($22–45 USD)
Intercity Bus (간선버스)₩1,200–3,000 ($1–2.50 USD)
Taxi₩3,800 base + ₩100/168m ($3 + meter)

Komodo Islands

Komodo National Park is entirely boat-accessed from Labuan Bajo, a small harbor town on western Flores. There are no roads or public transport between the islands. All exploration happens by boat — day trips, multi-day liveaboards, or private charters.

Walkability: Labuan Bajo town is small and walkable along the main harbor road. Within the national park, guided walking trails on Komodo and Rinca islands are 1-4 km. Padar Island has a single steep hiking trail. No roads exist on any park island.

Multi-Day Liveaboard Boats$150-400/day depending on boat class
Day Trip SpeedboatsIDR 600,000-1,500,000 ($38-95) per person shared; $200-400 private charter
Dive Operator BoatsIDR 2,500,000-4,500,000 ($160-285) for 2-3 dives including gear
