These are India's two extremes — beach and snowline — and the choice usually comes down to season and altitude tolerance rather than personal taste. Goa is India's smallest state, a 100 km Arabian Sea coastline of palm-fringed beaches, Portuguese colonial churches in Old Goa, spice plantations inland, and the lingering 1970s hippie scene at Anjuna and Arambol in the north against the calmer South Goa beaches of Palolem and Agonda. Leh (IXL) is reached by a 90-minute flight from Delhi (around 8,000 INR / 95 USD) and is only practical June through September — the road passes close in October, the temperature swings 50°C between summer days and winter nights, and acclimatisation to 3,500 m takes the first 48 hours of any visit. Goa peaks November through March; Ladakh peaks June through September. The two seasons overlap cleanly, so a single India trip can hit Ladakh in June or Goa in December but rarely both on the same go.

Pick Goa if you want sand, beach shacks, fresh fish thali for 250 INR, and a low-effort week of nothing. Pick Leh-Ladakh if you want Tibetan-Buddhist monasteries terraced up cliff faces, vast Himalayan landscapes, Pangong Lake colour shifts at sunset, and the most spectacular Indian destination most foreign travellers have never seen. Pro tip: spend your first 48 hours in Leh doing absolutely nothing — no monastery visits, no Khardung La day trip, just walk the bazaar and drink butter tea while your blood adjusts. Ignoring this is how most travellers lose day three to altitude sickness.
